General:
I cannot find my devices using EtherPAD / Multenet Explorer.
- Please ensure that your firewall has been turned off while scanning for your devices.
- Connect to the device directly using a cross-over cable rather that going through a network switch or hub.
- Check LNK LEDs on PC and device for connectivity.
- Some VPN applications make changes to your network adaptor’s configuration which interfere with the discovery method used by Multenet Explorer. Please disable or uninstall any such applications and try again.
How do I configure my Multenet devices?
After setting the IP address, I cannot upgrade the firmware or open the web configuration
What is the default password on my Multenet device?
Routers:
I have set up PPP and port forwarding correctly but I still cannot communicate with the device connected to the Multenet GSM Router.
- You need to set the default gateway on your device to the internal IP address of the router.
When I try and browse the internet through the router, my browser comes up with ‘Page cannot be displayed’. PPP is set up and I am connected.
- This is most likely caused by a DNS issue. If you have statically assigned an IP address to your PC, you would need to enter the DNS server addresses as well. You can obtain this from the router’s ‘Running Log’.
How do I configure the router so that all traffic is passed through my VPN connection.
- Set a host route to the VPN server with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 over the PPP interface. Then set a default route over the VPN interface.
Are the Multenet routers locked to a specific cellular service provider.
- No
Do I require two SIM cards for the router to function?
- No. The router will function with a single SIM card inserted in the first SIM slot.
APN:
- A Private APN is a private GSM data network that provides secure connectivity. The Multenet Private APN also provides static IP addressing for ease of device management.
Is the Private APN accessible internationally?
- Although it is accessible internationally through roaming, the cost of roaming internationally is R125 per MB. Using a VPN connection across the internet is a more cost effective option.
I am unable to connect to the Multenet Private APN.
- Make sure that you have specified the Multenet Private APN name in the PPP configuration. The APN name is ezcom.multenet.com. Also make sure that you have left the user-name and password blank in the PPP configuration.
Device Servers (PocketPAD and EtherPAD)
I cannot ping my device server.
- Make sure the LNK LED is lit on the device’s front panel. If not, check the Ethernet cable connection and the Hub. Replace the cable if needed. Another cause of this problem is that the PC ARP cache has not been cleared. Often, when replacing or testing an EtherPAD or PocketPAD, the same IP address will be used for all the different units. Typically the first unit tested will respond to the ping but the rest will not reply. If you reset the ARP table of the PC sending the pings, the problem will be solved.
I have configured my EtherPAD with an IP address but it does not work. What have I done wrong?
- Once the EtherPAD has been configured with an IP address and subnet mask, you need to set the parameters of the serial port. Once the serial side of the connection has been configured you need to configure a Network Application. This Application defines the port number that the application resident on a remote PC will connect to. Data received on this port by the device server will be sent out on the serial interface to the serial device. Refer to the Product Manual for more detail.
Can I use my EtherPAD / PocketPAD with Redirector software?
- Yes you can but care must be taken to configure the Network Application Protocol to Redirector to comply with RFC2217.
Can I use a DHCP server to configure my EtherPAD or PocketPAD?
- All versions of EtherPAD and PocketPAD can be configured using a DHCP Server. To use this option, do not configure the device with an IP address or Subnet Mask. (Leave the entries blank)
