Clients of Multenet’s Private APN service will soon have the option of large-scale remote monitoring and management of their Multenet routers.

Our standard APN package, which offers secure remote connectivity and static IP addressing has proven to be a popular service, but client demand for the addition of monitoring and management has led us to develop and integrate the new Smart monitoring service into that offering.

Users will now be able to view device-specific reports and receive custom alarms via e-mail, SMS or other channels. The service can also provide diagnostics and statistics that can be used to streamline monitoring and maintenance of large installations of wireless devices, ultimately lowering cost of ownership.

Customer demand met with 15 times the upload speed, at lower cost.

Multenet Technologies (Pty) Ltd. today announced the launch of its new dual-SIM HSUPA Router – a 3G router supporting 3G, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA and now HSUPA.

Phil Blain, Multenet’s marketing director, says customer demand for higher bandwidth has been greatly exceeded with the new router.

“High-Speed Upload Packet Access allows uploads of 15 times the rate of previous technologies. With HSDPA, a theoretical upload speed of 384Kbps was possible, while HSUPA allows 5.76Mbps (5760Kbps),” he explains.

Blain says Multenet came to the idea for the HSUPA Router when customers asked for a facility to transfer large amounts of data, such as real-time video streaming. Applications such as surveillance made the upload portion of the bandwidth configuration especially critical.

To make it even more attractive, the latest router costs 45% less than its predecessor, the HSDPA variety.

And in addition, Multenet expedited the issue of connectivity, including the steps involved in signing up with ISPs and obtaining SIM cards for routers, and the technically challenging exercise of communicating point-to-point across cellular networks.

Both these issues were resolved with the launch of Multenet’s Private APN, a private network specifically designed for Multenet clients. Multenet Private APN clients receive SIM cards with statically assigned IP addresses upon sign-up, and upon activation are immediately able to communicate point-to-point across the cellular network.

Finally, says Blain, the router comes packed with features that make it a secure and reliable connectivity device for both small business and large corporates.

Popular features include:

Secure Dual-SIM with hidden tray

High upload speeds with HSUPA

Ease of configuration through Web interface, and

Hassle-free upgrades

Multenet Technologies has announced the launch of the Multenet Broadband Router, a commercial-grade Wireless WAN (WWAN) router supporting High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), HSUPA and various other protocols, for redundant, high-speed and reliable support for mission-critical data communications.

Network redundancy
The router’s dual-SIM network failover allows automatic switch-over to a backup cellular service provider, should the primary service fail. The router further supports GSM GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA and HSUPA, automatically connecting to the fastest connection available, depending on the coverage in the area.

With the speed and reliability of HSDPA, the Multenet Broadband Router is ideal for business applications such as live video surveillance and broadband Internet connectivity. It offers a high-speed, cost-effective and safe solution for your branch networks and peripheral devices to connect to your corporate network or the Internet and sets a new benchmark in reliability of data communications, a vital aspect of running of a business.

Multi-protocol redundancy
The router’s automated fail-over support for multiple other protocols, including PPPoE, HSDPA and DSL, provides further redundancy, allowing it to act as an all-in-one redundant gateway, simplifying configuration and bringing down the cost of redundancy.

VRRP (Virtual Redundant Routing Protocol) is further included in the list of protocols supported, eliminating the single point of failure of a static default-routed environment. VRRP provides a single virtual gateway in environments with multiple routers. Instead of reconfiguring multiple devices with new routes when a route goes down, VRRP, together with one or more other routers supporting it, will automatically elect a new route, while still using the same virtual IP address as the local gateway address specified on your network devices.

An optional extra on the router’s VRRP implementation is the possibility to monitor the WAN link so that when primary connectivity is lost, the router will step down and elect a new default route while retaining the same virtual default gateway and IP address.

Advanced features
Multenet’s Broadband Router is an extremely versatile device suited to almost all data connectivity needs, and caters to a wide variety of applications to earn it a leading role in corporate connectivity solutions.

Advanced features include:

Network Address Translation (NAT),

Port forwarding,

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) via PPTP or L2TP for remote access to corporate networks,

A powerful network firewall providing hardened security,

PPPoE support,

A DHCP server to simplify network configuration,

Advanced real-time monitoring tools to allow fast, easy-to-access statistics of the router’s status

A built-in Web server allowing for easy configuration from a standard browser,

Remote management and configuration without the need for additional software,

IPSec for encryption on L2TP tunnels for VPN connectivity, and

NAT traversal, which makes it possible to route encrypted data across private APNs.

The Multenet Broadband Router does not require an external PCMCIA card like most cellular routers; instead it includes an embedded module to minimise exposure to breakage or theft, while reducing the cost of wireless connectivity by providing an all-in-one solution.

The new service lets customers securely and easily connect and manage remote devices as an extension of their corporate network – over the GSM cellular network.

Phil Blain, Multenet’s sales and marketing director, says the Multenet Private APN essentially gives any mobile device an entry point into an IP-based data network, such as a corporate VPN or the Internet.

Unlike the Public APNs provided by the mobile networks, Multenet’s Private APN allows fixed, static IP addresses to be assigned to field devices, allowing remote corporate connectivity without going via the public Internet. (The dynamic IP addresses assigned by Public APNs merely allow mobile devices to access the Internet.)

“Direct corporate connectivity is faster, more secure and more easily deployable than going indirectly via the Net,” Blain explains.

He adds that the release of the Multenet Private APN completes Multenet’s enterprise solution for remote mobile connectivity. Along with the Multenet range of cellular GSM routers, customers can now easily connect remote devices and access them directly.

Other uses for the Multenet Private APN solution include low-cost point-to-point solutions for telemetry and machine-to-machine applications.
